Trying to Self-Publish

Attempting to Self-Publish This post is likewise accessible in a podcast:â https://soundcloud.com/hopeclark/attempting to-independently publish (or click on picture at base of page). Saw this expression twice as of late, on two unique web journals. Attempting to independently publish. Those words bother me like fingernails on a writing slate, fork prongs on china, pounding teeth. You get the point. Yet, likely not in the way I mean . . . the way I need to pound home. Furthermore, I love to pound home points.People are qualified for independently publish. Obviously they are. Ive independently published. Im a crossover with my true to life acting naturally distributed (The Shy Writer Reborn) and my fiction customarily distributed (The Carolina Slade Mystery Series), and if Carolina Slade ever gets dropped Be that as it may, Ill disclose to you one thing . . . I wont TRY to independently publish her. Sick go out there, hop in with the two feet and damn well DO it. Whats with this difficult business? I handle TRYING to generally distribute, on the grounds that there are such a significant number of guardians who need to give you that mystical gesture for it to occur. You TRY since another person opens the entryway for you. In the event that they dont open the entryway, you dont distribute, at any rate with them. OK, bodes well. Yet, you dont TRY to independently publish. I didnt TRY squat when I independently published. I decided to self-bar and did it. Its like being pregnant. You are or you arent. You self-bar or you dont. I think since we have alternatives with independently publishing, you know, without all the guardians mentioning to us what we can do, we call it attempting. In any case, when I looked into TRYING in the word reference, theâ crankier I got at the individuals who state they TRY to independently publish. Attempt: 1) to put forth an attempt to accomplish something : to endeavor to achieve or finish something. 2) to do or utilize (something) so as to check whether it works or will be fruitful. 3) to do or utilize (something) so as to see whether you like it. That is straight out of Merriam-Webster, nectar. In The Shy Writer Reborn, I harp on expelling words like BUT, ONLY, NOT, NEVER and JUST from your jargon when discussing your composing capacities and endeavors. Its self-deploring. From The Shy Writer Reborn, page 41: Ever find yourself considering somebody effective, not really rich and amazing, yet somebody possibly just a couple of indents over your normal journey. In short order, you permit a feeling of debilitation to wrap over your shoulders, persecuting you with the thought you cannot be that acceptable. You see a familys picture, love their caught chuckling, at that point loathe the reality you are not, at this point near your sister. You nibble into a cake made in paradise and kick yourself for halting at the pastry shop as opposed to making your pie without any preparation. You read a distributed book in your kind, in a setting youve utilized, potentially revolved around a character not very far off from your own, and you revile about being too awkward an essayist to do just as that writer. We totter ourselves with the goal that others cannot point fingers first. In the event that we realize we are not exactly heavenly, it's not possible for anyone to astound us with allegations. Its a method of shielding ourselves from dismissal. Id like to add the word TRY to that rundown of words that keep us down. Keep away from disclaimer words. Individuals incline toward certain individuals. They dont need to associate with individuals who are TRYING to be acceptable. They need to associate with great individuals. They dont need to peruse books from individuals who TRIED independently publishing. They need to be around the individuals who unhesitatingly distributed their book. A most loved saying of mine is basically this: OWN WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO DO. Choose your way at that point strike without thinking back. Step that trail. Walk to your drummer. Slingâ your writingâ into the brilliant daylight utilizing all the force and ability you have. Sling it hard. You need the world to peruse each word. This work is your heritage. You dont attempt to publishyou distribute. You dont attempt to compose wellyou compose well. You dont attempt to advance your workyou advance your work. On the off chance that you think youve composed and altered something worth distributing . . . On the off chance that you think youre prepared to see your work in print . . . In the event that you think youre prepared to sell your work with certainty, at that point do it. Do it uproarious, hard, with energy. Be not hesitant to tell mankind what youve done. The moment you state you are TRYING to accomplish something, I hear delay and self-question as do specialists, perusers, distributers, editors, and the sky is the limit from there. Im letting you know, claiming what your identity is and what you do is amazing, and in excess of a couple of individuals will take a second look at you, needing a sample of that youre drinking, since whatever it will be, it causes you to show up more alive than they are. You can TRY or you can DO. Perusers can differentiate.

Medical Transcriptionist Resume Examples, Template, and Resume Tips

Medical Transcriptionist Resume Examples, Template, and Resume Tips Medicine has gone through a long path of change. From poking out randomly through somebody’s living body to laser-precise surgical interventions, we have learned so many things about how the human body works. What significantly aided this kind of education is the medical professionals who kept records of the things they did on a patient, thus making it easier for the new generations to deal with the illnesses that our ancestors came across. At first, the relevant medical records were made in such a way that doctors more or less dictated data and somebody had to write them down.Nowadays, medical transcription is an allied medical profession that utilizes all the modern tools available for transcribing what happened during a surgical procedure or a simple medical check. Moreover, medical transcriptionists are now a valuable addition to any hospital, since they can take the load off of regular doctors of medicine. And, if you are guessing yes, medical transcriptionists, this text is dedi cated to you and is written especially for you, so it would help you build or improve your career.Obviously, we are going to talk about how to write a brilliant resume and what it is that the employers want to see when they check out a piece of paper that is your resume.Keep reading to discover how to make the best resume ever, either all by yourself or using our resume template builder. Before the actual steps, we will briefly mention some basics of a good resume. However, if any of these might remain unclear, our examples will show in practice what we mean. Here we go!Let these sink in and never worry again that your CV is poorly written. It’s all about choosing a proper template (should you have any uncertainties concerning the right one, then play it safe and use our resume template builder); The language you employ must be highly precise and adequate for this kind of writing;Organization, organization, organization! That is, make sure that all relevant pieces of info are easily f ound;Make it interesting â€" be informative, but not too detailed. And, it’s finally time to show you how it’s done!Medical Transcriptionist Resume Example Right Certified Medical Transcriptionist Resume Example Right Create your own resumeWRITING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION SECTION â€" THIS IS HOWUnder personal information, of course, we mean the full name, contact details, and the like.Needless, to say, don’t use your cousin’s Barry personal details. You’re not in high school.Since writing a resume is all about order, then write your personal details as per the following hierarchy.NameGive your full first and last name.Owen Altman OR Qadri Sloan RightBig O Alty Man OR O. Altman Lady Q WrongWe explicitly need to say here that nicknames are NOT allowed!Sometimes employers do not have tolerance for these, but regardless of this, nicknames are an informal way of addressing someone. As opposed to this, a job application is a highly formal context. So, no nicknames! Pro TipAdditional Tip:If you happen to change your name for any reason, make sure that this detail is duly updated. If you don’t do this, your potential employer might get confused by your having one name in the resume and anothe r one in the official documents. This also shows how you take care of these details and make sure that people are always clear on who you are.ProfessionThe profession is among the most important details in a resume. This is why you must be careful not to do something wrong here.Medical Transcriptionist (MT) RightMedical worker/assisting in medical work WrongNote that your profession needs to be properly designated â€" don’t use the abbreviations only, even if they are common knowledge. List your full profession and do not obscure anything.Even if it happens that your profession is not exactly right for the opening, be persistent â€" you most certainly have other qualities to compensate for this.PhotoPhotos in a resume are a matter of disputes since some say you should include it, some say you should not.Well, first of all, know that a photo is not an obligatory addition to a resume. However, we recommend that you add it.The reason is simple â€" the employers don’t need it to ch eck which of the candidates is the pretties. This is completely irrelevant to this job. However, a photo gives warmth to a resume and helps employers gain a little bit better impression about you. And, this is not wrong â€" curiosity is natural, so no wonder we want to see the faces of people we are dealing with. Moreover, if you do not include a photo, the prospective employers might think you do not feel comfortable about your looks, and if you don’t, neither will they. And now, here comes the part where we tell you what kind of a photo the employers want to see in your resume.Photo instructionsBe alone in the photo taken against a neutral backgroundCombed, tidy, and clean hairLight and minimum make-up (for ladies)Proper postureProper clothingSmile (just a hint of it is more than enough)Eyes open (naturally)Trimmed beard (for men) RightPhoto instructionsGroup photo (from the beach, parties, with your family, or pet).Strong or otherwise inappropriate make-up (for ladies)Messy/too lon g beard (for men)SlouchingNo nudity allowed in these photosGrin/laughEyes closedMessy hairstyle WrongIf you still think to use some silly and fun photo â€" DON’T. Even if the rest of your resume is impeccable, you will embarrass yourself first of all, and more importantly, disqualify yourself from further job race. Pro TipPro Tip:It would be best to add a photo of your chest-up. This is how your face will be in the spotlight.Phone NumberThis is just the first step, or method, for the employers to get in touch with you. It will simplify the communication and speed up the process of obtaining feedback from you in case the employers need it. Pro TipAdditional Tip:With no exceptions, make sure that you updated the phone number if you changed it prior to submitting a job application. Don’t miss out on the great opportunity just because you forgot to update your phone number on time.AddressThis is another optional sub-section, but make sure to include it. It is useful in such a way that the company hiring new candidates sometimes prefers to send some materials to your door. Moreover, you will be appreciated for your honesty, especially if you are applying for a job post far across the state, or it can even show your flexibility in applying and accepting a job that is out of your current region.E-mail AddressBeing involved in the field where you mostly need to work with computers and related equipment, it’s hard to imagine that you do not have an e-mail address. After your phone number, this is the next channel through which the employers can get in touch with you. Now take a look at this.ovenaltman@gmail.com Rightkingbigo@gmail.com WrongThe point of the aforementioned is to tell you that your e-mail address also needs to look professional.Don’t use those silly nicknames here either. And, if you have multiple e-mail addresses, do not list those that you use for some other purpose besides applying for a job. Pro TipExtra Tip:Be sure that your e-mail addre ss is easily spelt and pronounced. Sometimes you might have to spell it over the phone, so this might lead to misunderstandings with serious consequences.Social Media Profiles â€" Yes or a Highway to (Jobless) Hell? Most of our lives happen online on social networks, or this is what we tend to believe.Despite our silly subheading, the inclusion of links to your social media profiles cannot be the reason why you didn’t or did get a job. However, when and if adding these, you need to be extra careful.Even though they can reveal some basics about you, some of those can be too personal or perhaps even inappropriate.Know that the content you like, post or share might cause potential employers to reach so many wrong conclusions. Pro TipPro Tip:If giving links to your social media profiles, limit the visibility of your posts on pages such as Facebook, for example. Not to be almost totally exclusive, we strongly recommend that you furnish the link to your LinkedIn account. This is a professi onals’ network, designed specifically for those seeking or offering a job, and it will only help you look more professional. On the other hand, your Instagram (or similar) profile are a huge NO in a resume. With this sub-heading, we have closed the personal info section and we can move on to the central part of a resume.SUMMARY SECTION â€" THE SHORT STORY ABOUT YOU AND HOW TO WRITE ITSummary Section is among the most effective headings in your resume. The reason is simple â€" this is where you catch the eye of the reader. Here, it’s where you need to dazzle them with quality and not the quantity. To simplify, here you must use merely a sentence or two precise enough to awake the curiosity in your next employer. Here you need to awaken the interest so that someone who reads your summary decides to keep on reading, and not to dismiss your resume as a waste of time. When we mentioned language and phrases in the introduction, this is where we will show you one part of that.SummaryA CHDS certified Medical Transcriptionistwith more than/over 6 years of relevant experience.Specialized in transcribing orally recorded texts/computer-based techniques for detecting language inconsistencies.Currently seeking a chance looking for an opportunity.Make a (substantial) contribution/prove myself. RightSummaryMedical Transcriptionistwith experiencelooking for a jobcontributeweak language WrongAs the focus is on quality, language you use must be sharp and precise and always to the point. If you write your resume as listed under Wrong, you would most certainly be soon dismissed as inappropriate. Why? Well, your employer knows you are looking for a job, but you will fare incomparably better if you say that you are seeking a chance/opportunity to prove something. It shows that you are proactive and that you will be dedicated to what you do.One of our candidates took a step further and has involved just a little bit of informal writing. Namely, she used the expression to shine in a new environment, but she most certainly compensated for this in the rest of your resume. This was not due to her not being aware of formal context or ignorance, but it was due to being confident and trying to set a slightly different tone.Next, if you say that you are with experience, the prospective employers will not be able to quantify that.Even if you add with significant experience, this is all relative. So be smart, use the numbers. And, if you do not have any experience whatsoever, the employer will also want to know this. Some jobs even do not require it, so don’t be afraid to say it honestly.Especially for this kind of job, if you write as marked Wrong, it will just mean you lack basic language and communication skills which are highly required for this kind of job.For this reason, stick to the expressions and phrases marked Right and you can never be wrong.Still, if you think you can’t do it, here’s a solution use our resume template builder.EXPERIENCE SECTION â€" TH E PATH TO CONVINCE THE EMPLOYER THAT YOU ARE RIGHT FOR THEMAnd, finally, we have reached that part of your resume that confirms to the employer whether you are fit for the job or no.If you think that listing only the names of the companies where you worked previously, well, you couldn’t be more wrong.Give the full title of the previous companies you worked for and then name the position within the company. Moreover, you will have to include a brief description of the position and/or tasks you were in charge of as well. Now check out how all of this looks in practice. Right WrongAgain, make proper use of language. If you don’t pay sufficient attention to the language you use the employers might perceive you as an uneducated individual who does not care just enough to present him/herself as best possible. And our examples are just the thing that the employers want your resume to be like. If you find it hard to do it like this, then use our resume builder.Under the Profession subheading, make sure to list the full names of the employers you worked for. Follow the example of our candidates here â€" they also indicated years of the engagement and the position they held as well. Now, if you take a look at the Right column, you will see an individual completely skilled for the job they are applying for. And, basically, this is all the employers are looking for.Obviously, language plays a major role together with numbers. To say improved efficiency does not mean much to your next employer. Also, adding significantly does not change much. But, a 5% increase i n efficiency tells another story. Pro TipAdditional Tip No. 1:Your work experience should include only true details. Know that all of these are checked within minutes, so save yourself the embarrassment and include only those posts you actually held. If you try to smuggle something and get discovered in the process, the new employer might dismiss you as unfit for good. Pro TipAdditional Tip No. 2:Do not list those jobs that are not related to the position you are currently applying for. Listing them only means you are wasting the employer’s precious time.Anyhow, if you are having trouble with everything we have told you so far, then check out our resume template builder. Writing a resume will be a piece of cake. And at last, know that your work experience is given in the reverse chronological order. So first enter the last relevant job and keep going backwards.HOW TO WRITE THE EDUCATION SECTIONOddly, education comes after the experience section. Not to delay, check out our right from the wrong distinction. Right WrongEducation is another instance where you need to include the full names of the institutions you attended. Also, list the period of time you spent studying at a specific institution. After these, provide the field of study.Interestingly, both of our candidates listed two entries. However, in both cases relevance is undeniable. Generally, you only need to enter the highest degree you hold in your resume. But, in cases like here, it is completely justified to enter both of them, though it is not always necessary.Next, GPA is also optional but you are definitely allowed to boast with the fact that you graduated with honors or had a high GPA.Another detail that you can benefit from is to list relevant projects you worked on during the years you spent in high school or college. Of course, it does not matter if you lead the team or were merely a member. And, finally, know that the education is also listed in reverse chronological order.SKILLS SECTION â€" WHAT AND HOW?Speaking of skills, prioritizing is key.Staying up all night for gaming and waking up early to get to work on time most certainly is a useful skill, but not the one you will need to flaunt as an MT.Also, there will be multiple other skills slightly related to the job, but you can omit these as well. The employers want to see your skills written and organized like this.SkillsExcellent ability to perform a number of tasks with a high degree of accuracyExcels at keyboarding/organizational and communication skillsFully mastered the Medical TerminologyAbility to communicate clearly and effectively / Full oral and written command of languageExtremely fast/ Highly skilled RightSkillsKnows how to / Can multitaskGood skills /skilled atFamiliar with Medical TerminologyFast, has great skills WrongNot to repeat ourselves, we explained how strong language can bring a variety of benefits. To spare you the unnecessary research, feel free to use the phrases we gave in our Right column,A special sub-section under skil ls is the languages you speak. When you do it, make sure to do it like this.Skills - LanguagesEnglish / Arabic (native)German (advanced)Spanish / Russian (intermediate) RightSkills - LanguagesEnglish / Arabic / German / Spanish / Russian WrongNo need to say that you must list only the languages you can truly communicate in. This detail is also easily checked so avoid the embarrassment of being exposed as a fraud. With the language, you need to provide the level of your knowledge.Be honest and don’t say that you are at an advanced level if you are only elementary. The final part of your resume is dedicated to general interests that are the activities you do in your free time. In this case, you also need to prioritize. This means that you should list only those activities that you truly dedicate your time to. Pro TipPro Tip 1:List only those activities that will make you look good. Pro TipPro Tip 2:Give only 2 or 3 activities, since you might seem chaotic otherwise.Having gained a thorough insight into writing a resume, you can now write one all by yourself. Still, if you’re having any doubts, then our resume template builder is just the thing for you.ADDITIONAL TIPS TRICKS:Update the data in your resume regularly and constantly make sure that these are full and true to your best knowledge.Adapt your CV to the job post you are applying for; if contrary, the potential employer will end up overwhelmed with unnecessary details.Having in mind that this text is about writing a perfect resume, run a check on your writing for grammar or punctuation mistakes.Give a wide berth to lengthy summaries. Precise is what you need to aim for.CONCLUSIONThe quest for a perfect job is not easy despite the fact that you have all the right prerequisites.Sometimes you end up disqualified just because you didn’t present yourself properly. Biology Tutor How Do We Classify Mutations

Mutations can be Neutral, Beneficial, or Deleterious In the previous post, we discussed some of the built in mechanisms that help to prevent mutations. Sometimes, however, mutations occur in spite of these systems. There are a few different ways that mutations are typically classified in an intro biology course and there are often overlaps between these categories. Here is a brief review of some of the ways that you may see mutations classified: Mutations can be Neutral, Beneficial, or Deleterious 1. Neutral Neutral mutations do not help or harm the organism. Certain kinds of mutations are more likely to lead to a neutral mutation. For example, silent mutations (described below) are by definition neutral, because they do not result in a change to the phenotype. Another example of a neutral mutation is a mutation that results in a change in phenotype, but the change in phenotype does not help or harm the organism (for example a mutation that results in a change in hair color). 2. Beneficial While mutations are often dangerous for organisms (and there are lots of systems in place to prevent them from occurring) they can also be beneficial. For example, mutations occasionally arise in a population that are protective against an infectious disease such as malaria. 3. Deleterious or Harmful Mutations are often harmful, for example a mutation that damages the cell’s DNA checking mechanisms may increase the likelihood of the organism developing cancer Mutations can be Silent, Missense, Nonsense, or Frameshift 1. SilentSilent mutations are mutations that do not result in a change in phenotype. This can occur if: A change in the nucleotide sequence does not result in a change in the corresponding amino acid. For example if a UUU codon is changed to a UUC codon, this would be a silent mutation because both UUU and UUC correspond to the amino acid phenylalanine. A mutation occurs in an exon (a non-coding section of DNA), and therefore does not affect the amino acid sequence of the resulting protein A change in nucleotide sequence results in a new amino acid, but one that shares the same properties of the amino acid it is replacing so that the overall protein continues to function normally 2. Missens A mutation in the DNA causes one amino acid to be swapped out for another. This results in a change in the primary structure of protein that can be beneficial, neutral, or deleterious. 3. Nonsense This type of mutation causes a change in nucleotide sequence that results in an early stop codon (UAA, UAG, UGA). This can lead to a shortened, incomplete polypeptide Nonsense mutations are usually pretty major mutations and are often deleterious. 4. Frameshift A frameshift mutation is caused when a nucleotide is added or deleted. Because codons are read in groups of three nucleotides starting from the end of the last codon, these mutations alter every subsequent codon. See below for an example of how a frame shift mutation alters down stream amino acids. As you can see above, frameshift mutations usually change the resulting DNA in a very significant way and, as a result, are often deleterious. One important note about frameshift mutations: If nucleotides were added or removed in multiples of three, a mutation would still have occurred but it would not be a frameshift This is because such a mutation would not impact the way that all downstream codons are read. For example: So far we have talked about mutations in the nucleotide sequence of DNA. It is also possible, however, to have errors in the overall chromosomes themselves. These mutations can be classified as deletion, duplication, inversion, insertion, or translocation mutations. These types of mutations are covered in less detail in most biology courses, so here is a brief overview of what each of those terms mean: 1. DeletionA segment of a chromosome is deleted2. DuplicationA segment of a chromosome is duplicated and reinserted into the chromosome3. InversionA segment of a chromosome is flipped upside down and reinserted into the chromosome4. InsertionA segment of one chromosome is removed and inserted into another chromosome5. TranslocationSegment from two chromosomes switch. You can also think of this as two insertions between a pair of chromosomes! We hope this review was helpful--happy studying! Narrative Frames and Ambiguity in Henry James The Turn...

Narrative frames and Ambiguity in The Turn of The Screw Since it was written, Henry James The Turn of The Screw has been acclaimed by numerous critics to be one of the most immaculate, engrossing and terrifying ghost stories ever produced. Harriet Waters Preston described it as, a sheer mortal horror, like the evil dream of a man under the spell of a deadly drug1, and Gertrude Atherton said, [it] is the most horrifying ghost story ever written!2 I will argue that it is the narrative frames enclosing The Turn of The Screw that are largely responsible for the reception the book has received. They serve two main purposes; one, to build up an element of suspense and tension before the governesss account actually†¦show more content†¦These layers serve to establish tension and suspense before the story actually begins. There are many dramatic devices employed in these outer frames to heighten this sensation. At the outermost layer of all, the title of the text itself, The Turn of the Screw, imparts an ominous atmosphere. Whether or not the screw refers to a sinister thumb-screw for torture purposes, or merely to a simple fastening device, the implication is that a ghost story involving children is a degree more oppressive than one that concerns only adults.3 In the second paragraph of the text, Douglas says, If the child gives the effect another turn of the screw, what do you say to two children-?4 The very setting of the fireside at which Griffins guests swap stories establishes an atmosphere with which many of us are familiar. We can all relate to sitting around a fire exchanging ghost stories. By employing this particular narrative frame James encourages the reader to abandon their scepticism and give themselves over to a belief in the ghosts. The reader shares in the eagerness of the guests to be frightened; to be delighted by horror. Upon seeing Douglas distress at the thought of the tale he must tell, and its dreadful - dreadfulness, one of the female guests actually cries, Oh how delicious!5 Douglas own elusiveness andShow MoreRelatedEssay Finding Meaning in The Turn of The Screw, by Henry James2788 Words   |  12 Pages Bly appears to be a rather lonely place. Inuit Eskimos Essay Example For Students

Inuit Eskimos Essay Inuit: The People of the ArcticThe native people that live in the Northern-Polar Regions of the world refer to themselves as Inuit, or as Americans like to call them Eskimos. The Inuit are nomadic tribes who live their lifes very different from the rest of the world. They base their life on beliefs, customs, habits, traditions, and culture that are very different from the American culture. The culture of the Inuit is a very miss-understood culture and it is proven in this essay that the Inuit are more than just savage, seal, killing Indians, that sleep in ice houses, live in below freezing weather and only kiss with their noses. Inuit is a word that means the people, which is how they refer to themselves. Until recently outsiders called the Inuit, Eskimos which means eaters of meat. Scientists have placed the Inuit in a separate anthropological category, while the Inuit are closely related to the native of Northern Asia, which is were they originally came from. Language provides an important insight into the lives of the Inuit. For example they must spend hours on end tracking caribou for many km or sitting by a hole in the ice waiting for a seal to show itself. The Inuit have no need to describe the past or future in great detail so they have no word for history. Another extreme is snow. There are many different words for many different types of snow. For example, aput is the the general word for snow. Snow that has recently drifted is akeolrak, but drifted snow is perksertok. The Inuit language is made up of words for the things that are important to the Inuit way of life (Halderson 2-7). Beginning about a thousand years ago, the early Inuit began to spread into the Arctic of Canada, across the great land bridge known as the Bering Straight, which no longer exists. The Inuit eventually spread over 6000 km, from the Soviet Union to East Greenland. Within a few hundred years, they had replaced the earlier inhabitants of the region. The migration across the land bridge was not a single mass event, but it was probably dozens of parties of perhaps twenty to thirty people moving east in search for a better life. A particular goal for making the great migration seemed to be richer whaling waters along the Baffin and Somerset Islands, and the always necessity for more space, soon after that whaling villages and small camps sprouted along the coast, while in-coast camps relied on seal and caribou (Halderson 2-7). The Inuit gradually spread across the arctic regions settling in four countries: The Soviet Union, The United States (Alaska), Canada and Greenland. According to Archaeological research, the first Inuit settled on the frozen tundra and the chilly sea coast. The Inuit have very distinct characteristics. Their height and weight varies, just, like in any culture. Their skin is tanned from the sun as dark as leather. The hair on their head is dark black and straight and the face grows hardly any facial hair. Their eyes are dark and almond shaped, a small almost bridge-less nose with large flared nostrils, a very strong jaw, that came about from generation and generation of eating almost nothing but meat, and they have a distinctively high and round zygoma bone. It is often stated the physical characteristics of the Inuit came about, due to their adaptation of the cold weather. For instant: A flat face and small extremities are easier to keep warm. The fold in their eyes keeps the eyes fr om freezing and in the spring in blocks of some of the glare on the bright sun that reflects of the snow. The lack of facial hair keeps ice and condensation from building up from the breathing. And the very tough jaw comes from the very tough diet, which regularly includes raw, frozen meat or walrus hide (Morrison and Germain 12-13). The cold water of the Arctic provides the Inuit with all types of food. The single most important part of the Inuit diet is the seal. There are six type of seal that the Inuit hunt for food: the Ringed Seal, the Harbour Seal, the Harp Seal, the Grey seal, the Bearded Seal and the Hooded seal. The fish hunted for food are mainly cod and salmon. Whales that were killed for food include the Bowhead whale, the Narwhal and the Beluga, and another important part of their diet is the almighty walrus. The land animals that provide the Inuit with food are the Polar bear, Caribou, Musk-Ox and the smaller game includes Arctic wolves, foxes and hares, also ground squirrels and brown lemmings. The birds that pose for prey are the ducks, geese, swans, loons and even the eggs of the birds in the early summer months. The Inuit favorite food was usually seal, caribou, walrus liver and the skin of whales. The hunts in the winter months included polar bears, arctic foxes and arctic hares, and the hunts in the summer months usually included caribou, geese, and walrus. The animals are not wasted once stripped of all their meat. Almost everything on the animal is put to some sort of use. The pelts of the bigger and smaller animals are used for clothing and shelter from protection of the cold weather. The antlers of the caribou, the ivory of the walrus tusk and the bone of the whale and musk-ox can be used for knifes and harpoons(Morrison 64-137). Frankenstein and the Romantic Era EssayUntil recently their had been no Inuit artists because they didnt have time in their life for art. The only form of art in the past had been idly carving seabirds or seals in soft stone. Inuit did decorate things that were very important like spears, harpoons or pipes. Toys for children would be carved out of bone or soft stone. Inuit clothing was often decorated with tiny dots. Masks were also important objects in their ceremonies. The Inuit believed in a special godlike power that was contained in all of nature. They followed their priests and shamans in approaching this power in the proper way by living in harmony with nature. The shaman would lead dances performed to honor nature. At other times individuals would go alone into nature to better understand their relationship with it. They emphasized lifes important occasions such as the naming of a baby at 8 days of age. They were usually named after a relative who died. If they did not live to 8days they were not mourned as they had never lived (Dorothy and Blaker 159). Eskimo life is much different now. Most of the people live in towns or small settlements. They wear modern clothing, live in modern houses, and eat food purchased from stores. Instead of kayaks and dog sleds, they use motorboats and snowmobiles. Many have renounced the native religion for Christianity. Many Eskimos now work for wages, but a substantial number are unemployed and require government help to live. In the Soviet Union at present there are approximately 1,500 Eskimos living on the northeast tip of Siberia. In the 1920s the Communist government took control of all Eskimo communities. They provided health care and helped with housing and education. The Eskimos were encouraged to produce goods for sale throughout the country. Some examples of successes in this area were reindeer hides, walrus tusks, and bone and soapstone carvings. In Alaska the Eskimo population is approximately 42,000. By the early 1900s, rifle hunting and trapping greatly reduced the number of game animals. They began to hunt reindeer which had been brought in from Siberia by the U. S. government. They became U. S. citizens in 1924. During World War II (1941-1945) they worked at U. S. military bases; afterward, part-time jobs were the only employment available. Many now depend on the government to improve living conditions. Eskimos benefited, to a small degree, from the 1968 oil strike. Most of the Eskimo children do not finish high school. Canadas Eskimo population is about 25,000. Their lives didnt change a lot until the 1950s. The fur trade declined, and the number of caribou decreased after rifle use increased. More and more of the Eskimos moved to communities developed around trading posts, government administrative offices, military radar sites, and mission churches. Construction jobs were plentiful for a period of time. The Canadian government assistedthrough the development of commercial fishing cooperatives and handicrafts. Soapstonesculptures are sold to people in Canada and the United States. The government provides assistance with financial aid and health care. Greenland is presently a province of Denmark, after being a Danish colony for 573 years. There are approximately 50,000 Eskimos living there. In the early 1900s they began to engage in commercial fishing. A change in climate warmed coastal waters; this drove seals north and attracted cod, salmon, and other fish. Shortly afterward, the Danish government established programs to aid the Eskimos. They improved education, housing, and health care besides providing training for jobs in manufacturing and service industries. The Eskimos who live in northern Greenland still follow the traditional life (Coklin Web-site). Although many changes have occurred since their ancestors first arrived in North America, there are almost 120,000 Eskimos still living in the Far North. To survive they have been forced to battle weather and then the influence of white men; in many ways the latter has been much more challenging to their endurance. The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Example For Students

The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Essay Paper Religion is a simple concept to learn. Websters dictionary defines religion as: belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshipped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe. Although it is understood what religion is, not everyone has the same views. There are numerous varieties and sub-vrieties of religions. In fact, religion can be so diverse that one might say that he or she is of the same religion as another person but the way he or she demonstrates their beliefs may be dramatically different. In the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain, writes about a young boys growing and maturing experiences one summer as he travels down the Mississippi River. One of the things that this boy, Huck Finn, discovers is how religion affects his lifestyle. Huckleberry Finns views of religion have an impact on many essential points in the episodic novel. Religion has an effect on three of Hucks major decisions throughout the novel. His religion is tes ted when he first decides to help Jim run away. His religion is tested when he lies to most of the people he meets traveling down the Mississippi River, and Huckleberrys religion is tested when he decides to help Jim escape from slavery for good. We will write a custom essay on The Religion Of Huckleberry Finn Paper specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Huckleberry Finn was raised without a strong religious influence. Hucks father being a raging alcoholic, and Huck living mostly on his own, were two of the factors that contributed to this. Pap came to visit him one night and expressed his negative thoughts on school and religion. First you know youll get religion, too. I never see such a son (Twain 20). Despite these warnings, the Widow Douglas continued to teach Huck. Later in the novel, these teaching have consequential effects on Huck. Hucks religious morals are first tested when he decides to help the Widows slave escape to freedom. During the time that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn took place, slavery was not uncommon. In the beginning of the story, Huck displays similar beliefs as the people that are raising him; blacks are considered property and not people. Huck chooses to help Jim run away despite the fact that he knows that Jim is considered property and helping him would be like stealing. The widow tries to convert Huck to Christianity. She preaches all about heaven, hell, and the things that one should do to get to either place. Huck is not too concerned about either, obviously, because he helps Jim run away. As Jim and Huck travel down the Mississippi, Huck, at first, does not think much of the fact that he is helping Jim escape to freedom. As the novel progresses, though, Huck begins to think about the consequences of his actions. The things that the Widow had previously worked diligently to install in Huck had some effect on him. This is apparent for the first time when Jim expresses his anxiety to become free. This makes Huck feel nervous of the deed that he is doing. Well I can tell you it made me all over trembly and feverish, too, to hear him, because I begun to get it through my head that he was most free and who was to blame for it? Why me (Twain 85). Hucks first reaction is that he is letting the Widow Douglas down by not returning her property. Huck is only worried about honor and what was right for the time but a similar event happens later in the novel where Huck considers his actions a little more carefully. .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .postImageUrl , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:visited , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:active { border:0!important; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:active , .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92 .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9e5626aa16daf58ed5c7cc865d3e9e92:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy EssayHuckleberry finally begins to realize that Jim is not property, but an actual person. He plays a trick on Jim and finds out that he has feelings too. This brings Huck and Jim closer together and Huck accepts the fact that Jim is not a slave but a friend. Huck is tried again for what to do about Jim when Jim is sold to Silas Phelps down south. He knew he had to get Jim out somehow and he still was feeling guilty for taking him in the first place. And at last, when it hit me all of a sudden that here was the plain hand of Providence slapping me in the face and letting me know that my wickedness was being watched all the time from up ther e in heaven (Twain 204). Huck decides to write to Jim to save him from a life of slavery with a complete stranger. He never sends the letter but he feels much better after he writes it. All right, then, Ill go to hell (206). Ultimately, Huck came to the conclusion that he has already done so many sinful things that there was no use in trying to get to heaven anymore. Today, many Americans would look at Huck and believe he was right in trying to free Jim. During the era of the Civil War, many would think differently. Huckleberry Finn could hardly be called sacrilegious but he was no saint either. Religion had a good deal of impact on him. It almost caused him to give himself up to do what he thought was right. In the beginning of the novel, we see that Huck is not interested in religion, or what the Widow has to say at all. Throughout each episode, however, one can see that what the Widow taught him had some effect. Religion
